World Nutella Day - Nutella/Banana Pastry Purses
That's right, it's World Nutella Day. This indulgent day was created by Sara Rosso, an American blogger living in Italy who writes Ms. Adventures in Italy and Michelle Fabio, another American blogger living in Italy who writes Bleeding Espresso. These two women adore Nutella and wanted to create a day when we all indulge! In the spirit of that day, I've made some Nutella Purses which contain banana - one of the two great combinations in all of food history - banana and Nutella. These are so easy to make and only take a few minutes. You can certainly add some nuts to this if you like, which I would have done (walnuts, specifically) but I am the only soul in my household that likes nuts. If you've never bought Nutella before, you can find it next to the peanut butter in almost any grocery store. It's a staple in Europe, even at breakfast. Please visit The World Nutella Day site on February 9th to see the complete 2009 roundup of Nutella recipes from all around the world.
Nutella and Banana Pastry Purses

Ingredients:
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry dough
- Nutella
- 1 banana
- some walnuts (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Defrost pastry dough in refrigerator until pliable. Place on lightly floured surface and cut into 9 squares. Place squares on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Using two teaspoons, drop nutella onto center on squares. Slice banana and place a slice on top of nutella. Add nuts if you like. Taking each opposite corner, bring corners together and squeeze tightly. Do the same with the two opposite corners. Make sure all four corners seal well.
Bake at for about 15 minutes, until golden brown. If some of the purses open during cooking, you can seal them back together quickly right after you take them out, when they are still hot.

Wowo this looks so yummy i am bookmarking these.
I eat nutelly on my bread with sliced bananas, but this is so much more delicious, i will have to make these.
oooh - they look so good and so easy to make too. I just saw your pizzelle ice cream nutella sandwich. I posted a similar piece today, minus the ice cream. If only I'd seen this first!
You know I loved the ice cream sandwiches, and these little nutella purses look wonderful!!
I love Nutella but I have only ever had in on a peanut butter sammie, your puffs looks great.
These look fabulous. You make it look super simple. Great flavor mix. Will have to try.
Pure delight!!
Perfect, perfect, perfect! These would be lovely to serve at a tapas party or as a before-dessert tease. Thanks for the recipe!

i could eat 6. no doubt.
Hi, I was wondering what kind of dough you used? I used the puff phyllo dough, but I don't think that's correct. Thanks!
RecipeGirl: Whaaaa????
Fret: Fast to make, fast to eat!
Ploy: I used puff pastry, not phyllo dough. They are two different items.
Those look amazing! I think I'll be trying these very soon.
OMG - when I was little you couldn't fine Nutella anywhere in the US and I would beg my cousin to bring some down everytime they visited and then all my sisters and I would fight for bits!!!!!!!!! Is it not the best THANK YOU
Delicious looking and delicious tasting and quite simple to make! I've never made this before. These were pure delight and I'm sure to make them again.
Soooo Yummy! I am eating them as I type!
I made these, half with banana and half with frozen strawberries, since my silly sister doesn't like banana. Both kinds were delicious! In fact, when all of the strawberry ones were gone my sister even ate a banana one. That is an impressive feat.
I tried it again later with a few different kinds of frozen berries and the raspberries and blackberries were a hit as well.
I have a question :) can I make this with phyllo pastry instead of the puff pastry dough?
From The Italian Dish:
Roni: I would think phyllo dough would work just fine with this! Let me know how it turns out.
Must these be served hot, or are they still as good after cooling?
From The Italian Dish:
Ron: They're best served right after they are made and are still good at room temperature for a while. After they cool, they tend to turn a little soggy after a while.
Do you think it would be plausible to make a big batch, freeze them before baking, then thaw some whenever you'd want a few?
Also, what do you think about using over-ripe bananas, and mixing the nutella and the mashed up banana together so it's all one spread? I think that might make freezing a bit easier?
From The Italian Dish:
Alex: Gee, I don't know how the banana would freeze. All I can say is to give it a try and let me know how it works out!
I was looking for a simple nutella dessert recipe and not the usual nutella filled crepes, this popped up. Super simple and fast! I just made a batch and they taste absolutely delicious... thanks!!!!
Thanks for the amazing idea, Elaine! I substituted raspberries for banana because I had them on hand, and these were soooo scrumptious!! I can't wait to try them with banana next time (which, let's be honest, will probably be in a week.) I just had to go and blog about it, and linked to your page: http://www.makegrowdo.com/2014/07/raspberry-nutella-razzle-dazzles.html
I'm trying fresh figs tomorrow let you know how they come out.Semper Fi9
